Climate change adaptation reduces the vulnerability of social and biological systems to relatively sudden change and thus offset the ill effects of temperature change. Even it emissions are stabilized relatively soon, global warming and its effect will last many years, and adaptation will be necessary to the resulting changes in climate. Adaptation is especially important in developing countries since those countries are predicted to bear the brunt of the effects of global warming as majority of the population of developing countries are poor. The capacity and potential for humans to adapt is unevenly distributed across different regions and populations, and developing countries generally have less capacity to adapt.

The book climate change perspective and challenges in 21st Century describes the extent, magnitude, causes and consequences of climate change in socio-economic and ecological environments. Hence, current development efforts should increasingly focus on community-based climate change adaptation, seeking to enhance local knowledge, participation and ownership of adaptation strategies.

This book is an outcome of the valuable contributions made by eminent scientists and research scholars who have been trying to develop alternative strategies, solutions and models for climate change solution through research, monitoring and experiments varying from regional to global scale. This edition would be of immense use to the policy makers, environmentalists, ecologists, academician, research scholars and people in genera concerned with climate change adaptation. (jacket)
