Funding Opportunities for Voluntary Organisation, Vols. I to III Book

The NGO movements in various Developed Assistance Committee (DAC) countries gained momentum during the 1970s and increased rapidly to the 1980s. There is a phenomenal growth of private and through NCOs for development assistance to the south. The NCO activities have increased dramatically, and have become a significant element in the developed cooperation, providing an alternative to the development strategy of bilateral and multilateral donors. Owing to the growing recognition of the role of NGOs in the development process by the official and donors and their increasing contribution to NGO resources, the scale and pace of growth of NGOs have been multiplying at a faster rate. Today, the rapidly growing NGO movements have made their presence feit in almost all walks of life both in developed and developing worlds. The NGO sectors are highly heterogeneous. Great diversities exist within and between northern and southern NGOs over a variety of issues such as their process of evolution, definition, forms and types, size, legal status, programmes, staffing patterns, governance, role, priorities, pattern of networking and lobbying, funding sources and volumes and their relationships with governments.
