Infrastructural planning for integrated rural development depends upon the coordination and cooperation between a number of elements and departments at various levels. The objective of such plan is to bring together all the infrastructural plans and general service centre plan into harmonious organization overcoming obstacles and reconciling conflicts, if any. The purpose is to see the picture in its wholeness and its overall impact on the area. Integration among different elements is to be aimed functionally, spatially and administratively. The validity of integrated area planning is to be established in relation to four efficiencies i.e. spatial, functional, social and environmental.
Therefore, keeping all these facts in view and after compromising with the various sectoral and infrastructural standards, the central places and their complementary regions of the study region have been identified and re-organised for locational planning on the principle of nesting and clustering because all the centres could not be provided with all the functions.
Thus, the book is useful to researchers and students working in the field of rural development. (jacket)
