From the Preface: "The present volume provides comprehensive jurisdictional maps in respect of all the administrative units of the Nagaland as existed during census 2001. In 2001 census there were eight districts, 93 rural and one urban circles. The present volume also includes the maps showing administrative divisions and their analytical notes for the census years 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001. The administrative maps pertaining to census year prior to 1971 could not be presented in this volume due to non-availability of proper maps and relevant notification, information etc.
In order to make the present volume compatible to that of Census 2001, a total of 10 thematic maps showing different aspects of demography have also been included. Except the map of Decadal growth of population 1991-2001 and density of population, which is drawn at district level, the remaining maps are prepared at circle level. The map showing density of population could not be prepared at circle level because the area figures down the district level are not published by the state government.
In addition to the map showing administrative divisions of different census decades and maps on different themes, the maps at district and sub-district (circle) level showing changes in administrative boundaries 1991-2001, circle boundaries, name of the district/circle headquarter’s with amenities are also included in this volume. The circle maps, though do not show the revenue village boundaries but their location along with Permanent Location Code Number (PLCN) have been depicted."
